Day 1 Enroute to South America

There is always all that little bit of trepidation on the first day of a
holiday. Especially when there are a range of factors involved in getting
you to your final destination. Lucky for us everything fell into place
perfectly.

Our first job was getting our Ally to the cattery. Leaving ourselves enough
time, we drove her out to her BnB which she will call home for the next 2
months. Acting rather affectionate over the past few days, made us believe
that she knew something was up.... well I think she also recognises what the
suitcases represent.

We were so organised that all we had to do once we returned home was to
wheel our bags out to the kerbside and wait for our shuttle to turn up.

There are always many horror stories of transfers being late or even just
not turning up. We picked a good one as not only did they turn up, but they
were early. The icing on the cake was that we were the only ones that she
was picking up. So yes I would recommend Good Morning Airport Shuttle.

We got to the airport early, as we did factor in extra travelling time for
multiple pickups and traffic, of which we had none.

This worked in our favour as one of our colleagues from work arranged two
complimentary passes into the Qantas Club. The champagne went down a treat
and the snacks tied us over until we were fed again on the plane.

The head count on the plane was low enough that everyone was able to spread
out. So, the two us enjoyed four centre seats all the way to Dallas. It
was a fairly smooth flight and we did manage to get a few hours of sleep
each.

Our next point of concern was whether one hour and one hour and forty five
minutes was enough time to see us safely on our connecting Fort Lauderdale
flight.

As Dallas was our entry point into the USA we had to pass immigration. This
notoriously has the reputation of being slow. But as luck would have it,
the hall was surprisingly empty. There are self-serve terminals where you
scan your passport and finger tips.... answer a couple of questions and then
proceed to an officer, who will ask more questions before he sends you on
your way. Luggage also has to be collected, walked through a non-existent
customs and then given back to be loaded onto your nextflight. Connecting
flights will usually be in another terminal so it is onto the skytrain to
get you where you need to be.... Phew we made it with time to spare.

It was then over four hours in a particularly crowded plane, so after 20
hours of fly time we have made it.

Having purchased a hotel package, it was a relief to see the Princess
representative waiting at the terminal to ensure we got to our hotel.
