The Embassy Suites are ideally situated on 17th street, just a stone throw away from Port Everglades making it great as a pre cruise Hotel.
Check in was quick and easy, but then it was 8pm at night. All the suites are made up of two rooms, a lounge with TV and desk, and a separate bedroom and bathroom. The décor is a little dated but comfortable, especially the beds.
The bathrooms also dated with plumbing to match. It was clean and shower was well
pressured and hot, so I was happy.
The biggest downside for us was the strong smoke smell as you walked in the front door. So bad that I actually wrote to our Vegas Hotel to ensure our room there was smoke free.
Too tired to venture out for dinner we ordered room service. Looking at the menu we thought, these prices aren't too bad, then the fine print at the bottom explained the add on's which brought
the prices up to what we had expected to pay. There was added tax, service charges and then another $3 for in room dining….. Ugg, just tell me the total price up front!!
The hotel consists of 12 floors with all rooms built around a central atrium with a glass roof. Along with its manmade pond, waterfall and greenery, it gave the area a lovely outdoor feel. Filled with tables and
chairs this also serves as the spot
where you can enjoy your complimentary breakfast and evening drinks. Breakfast is buffet style with cereals, pastries and fruits. Eggs are made to order with the choice of having them made into omelettes or just fried. Scrambled eggs were ready to serve along with sausage and bacon.
Between 5.30 – 7.30pm there are complementary drinks and snacks served. We arrived late so we missed where the snacks were available, but we did a manage a glass of wine and scotch and coke before it finished up.
It wasn't till the morning that we were checking out that we found the
lovely pool area complete with more waterfalls, bridges spaning over ponds filled with Karp. A lovely garden setting where we could have enjoyed our breakfast if we realised it was there. Just behind the hotel are the Harbor Shops.
Close enough to pick up any last minute toiletries, soft drinks or snacks from the Publix Supermarket, and all your wine requirements from Total Wine, a store much like our Dan Murphy's. TJ Max is there, a shop that can give Ross Dress for less a run for its money…. But if you are loyal to Ross, they were just across the road down along 17th street. Getting around is not hard either, as the water taxi is just down the road and I have a brochure that tells me that there is a shuttle that runs downtown to Las Olas and back for $1 or $3 for a day pass.
So if they could guarantee me a non-smoking room, I wouldn't hesitate to
stay there again.
